The den is the room where my dad "demos" his speaker systems and equipment to customers. I'm sure there hasn't been a demo there in many years, but at its worst, my dad would "prepare" for a customer demo by cleaning off a patch of space on the couch to sit. Back then, you could at least physically get to the equipment to operate it, now it is all on an X-10 remote control so he can tune into his favorite radio station (even if he can't actually ever change that station).
